Japan, New Zealand, Libya: Natural Disasters & Humanitarian Crisis

This morning the news has been filled with the earthquake in Japan and the tsunamis now in progress.  There was also an earthquake in New Zealand recently, and the conflicts in Libya (and throughout North Africa) have given rise to masses fleeing to countries like Tunisia. If one of your first thoughts is, "How can I help?", I want to highlight one of the ministries of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance) partners with relief organizations throughout our own country as well as across the globe.  PDA is often found among first responders whenever disaster strikes, but what makes this ministry unique is that they stay until the work is done!  For example, PDA continues to have a presence in the Gulf Coast as residents continue to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

PDA is among the ministries that receive funds from "One Great Hour of Sharing," an offering collected in many churches around the country.  You can also contribute directly to the general fund of PDA by visiting, http://gamc.pcusa.org/give/DR000148/ . If you have a particular interest in contributing to relief efforts in a specific area or instance, you can do that too!

A specific giving account # for the disaster in Japan has not yet been posted on the PDA website, but when it is posted, we will include it here as well.
